Thanks to Record Store Day 2020’s first drop on Aug. 29, U.S. vinyl album sales surged to a new weekly high in 2020, as 802,000 copies were sold in the week ending Sept. 3, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. That’s a 63% increase compared to the previous week’s sales.
That 802,000 haul is also the largest week for vinyl album sales since the week ending Dec. 26, 2019, when 1.243 million copies were sold.
Further, the 802,000 sum is the biggest week for vinyl albums outside of the Christmas shopping season since the week ending April 18, 2019, when 848,000 were sold. That week included Record Store Day 2019 festivities.

Due to complications caused by COVID-19, Record Store Day 2020 – which was slated to take place April 18 – was split into three separate drops: Aug. 29, Sept. 26 and Oct. 24. In turn, the Record Store Day-focused releases and exclusive titles that were all due to hit independent and small chain record stores on April 18 were spread across the three days, including the two upcoming dates. Many titles are released specifically for the annual music store holiday, including unique color vinyl variants, hard-to-find catalog pieces and niche reissues.
The biggest-selling album at indie and small chain record stores in the week ending Sept. 3 – as reflected on the weekly Tastemakers albums chart (dated Sept. 12) – was Billie Eilish’s Record Store Day release Live at Third Man Records, with 13,000 copies sold. The 10-track acoustic album was recorded on Nov. 6, 2019 and was released exclusively on blue opaque vinyl. The set also debuts at No. 55 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Eight of the top 10 albums sold at indie and small-chain retailers (see list, below) were either released for Record Store Day or had a new format of variants issued for the holiday. Only Taylor Swift’s Folklore (No. 3 for the week) and Metallica’s S&M2 (No. 4) were not Record Store Day-focused, though the latter had a color variant exclusive to indie stores for its release on Aug. 28.

Here’s what we know about Billie Eilish’s involvement with the Netflix original series, 13 Reasons Why.

Following the success of her album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go, Billie Eilish returned with a new song for the upcoming James Bond movie. This single, titled “No Time to Die” already accumulated over 170 million plays on Spotify.
“We wrote and recorded the Bond song on a tour bus in Texas,” Finneas said during an interview with Rolling Stone. “We did certain songs on the album in hotel rooms. You know, that’s kind of always been our philosophy: not letting the place that we get in the way of making great music.”
She wouldn’t be the first artist to write and perform songs in conjunction with the James Bond movies. In the past, Adele released the song “Skyfall” for the movie of the same title. However, Billie Eilish also had music appear on the soundtracks for a few television shows.

No Time to Die wouldn’t be the first project Billie Eilish and Finneas had their hands on. Recently, the artists and their music appeared in the soundtrack for Netflix’s original drama series 13 Reasons Why. In fact, a second song of theirs appeared on the soundtrack for the show’s second season.
According to The Fact Site, “Her song ‘Bored’ is on the Season 1 soundtrack, while on Season 2 she collaborated with Khalid on the track ‘Lovely.’” Other artists featured, according to the album on Spotify, include Joy Division, Selena Gomez, Sir Sly, and The Cure.
This wouldn’t be the first time Billie Eilish’s music was chosen for a television series
There’s no series that matches the Billie Eilish creepy vibe quite like American Horror Story. With a handful of seasons already released and available for binge-watching, this series featured different scary settings, from an insane asylum to a haunted hotel to an average American town plagued by an underground cult.
Most recently, the television show premiered a season inspired by slasher movies of the 1980s. Of course, the teaser trailer for AHS: 1984 featured the haunting singing voice of Billie Eilish. After fleeting into her cabin, the killer stabs his knife through the door. “Six Feet Under” by Billie Eilish plays softly in the background.
Music by Billie Eilish and Finneas, including the songs featured in 13 Reasons Why, No Time to Die, and American Horror Story, are available for streaming on music platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
Pop music icon Lady Gaga has offered to be the mentor of rising star Billie Eilish.
Gaga, who has been at the top of the music landscape for years, has seen the meteoric rise for Eilish, a teenager who has dominated pop music over the past 12 months after bursting onto the scene as a teenager.
With a major victory at the Grammy Awards proving a crowning moment in Eilish’s rise, Gaga has offered to lend a helping hand in a bid to deal with the pressure.
“Billie swept a whole bunch of awards so I said, ‘Let’s send some flowers’. I wrote her a note,” Gaga told Apple Music. “For me, it’s healing because it hurt me that I didn’t get that. I’m going to be that for someone else.
“I’ve had a harder time with older women in terms of having a female mentor. Other than Celine Dion and Carole King, it’s proven difficult to have someone who would show me the way,” Gaga added. “So I really hope that young female artists – or young artists of any gender identity or sexual identity – will know that I am rooting for them.”
While it is not known whether or not Eilish accepted to offer, the news comes shortly after Gaga herself explained that the great Elton John guided her through the music industry. “He’s been my mentor for a long time,” Gaga said.

American singer and songwriter Billie Eilish just unfollowed everyone on Instagram after she posted in one of her Instagram stories that she will support all those that have been abused.
“If I am following your abuser, DM me and I will unfollow them. I will support you,” she wrote on her IG story.
Not long after, she deleted the story and instead of just unfollowing several chosen people, went on to delete everyone she ever followed on the social media platform—including her own brother, Finneas, who she collaborates with for her music.
Before this incident, the singer has been very vocal about the #blacklivesmatter movement, even posting a long tirade on the matter a few weeks back.
Eilish is obviously making a statement with this new move, but she has yet to officially comment on it.

Vegan musician Billie Eilish and her vegan mother, Maggie Baird, recently appeared on plant-based cooking show New Day New Chef (NDNC) on Amazon Prime Video. The show’s special season focuses on the work of vegan nonprofit initiative Support + Feed, which was created by Baird to support local vegan restaurants in Los Angeles, New York, and Philadelphia while supplying food to children’s charities, homeless and domestic shelters, and family and senior centers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of the eight-episode series, host Jane Velez-Mitchell and Baird welcome chefs in California who are supplying food to the needy during the pandemic, including Mollie Engelhart of Sage Bistro, Ron Russell of SunCafe, Tara Punzone of Pura Vita, and Angela Means-Kaaya of Jackfruit Café. The show also includes appearances by Eilish and her musician brother Finneas.
New Day New Chef debuted on Amazon Prime Video in the United States and United Kingdom earlier this year with an aim to dispel the false notion that removing meat and dairy from one’s diet is a sacrifice.
“We are so grateful that NDNC not only wanted to feature the incredible chefs and restaurants in Support + Feed but also to let us share our mission—feeding nourishing plant-based meals to people in need, to spread awareness, and to ultimately help the planet,” Baird told VegNews.
BILLIE EILISH has dominated charts since her debut album arrived on store shelves and streaming services – but now the star has hit out at being put within specific labels over the years.
And while the young star has garnered numerous fans over the course of her career, her music brand has never truly be defined.
Over the course of her time in the spotlight people have dubbed her music genre anything from pop to alt-pop and pop-rock, ad nauseam.
In an interview with GQ earlier this year the star spoke about her genre, and how she wishes the status quo were different for artists of her caliber.
She first told the publication: “I hate when people say: ‘Oh, you look like ‘blank’. You sound like ‘blank”.”
She then went on to reference an announcement Tyler the Creator gave after winning a Grammy for Best Rap Album.
He told press: “I’m very grateful that what I made could just be acknowledged in a world like this.
“But, also, it sucks that whenever we – and I mean guys that look like me – do anything that’s genre-bending, they always put it in a ‘rap’ or ‘urban’ category.
“I don’t like that ‘urban’ word – it’s just a politically correct way to say the n-word, to me. Why can’t we just be in pop?”
Noting this comment, Eilish went on: “It was such a cool thing Tyler said. I agree with him about that term.
“Don’t judge an artist off the way someone looks or the way someone dresses. Wasn’t Lizzo in the Best R&B category that night? I mean, she’s more pop than I am.”
Getting candid on the subject, she added: “Look, if I wasn’t white I would probably be in ‘rap’.
“Why? They just judge from what you look like and what they know. I think that is weird. The world wants to put you into a box.
“I’ve had it my whole career. Just because I am a white teenage female I am pop. Where am I pop? What part of my music sounds like pop?”
While it is true her music doesn’t exactly scream “pop-music” she is always certainly going to be a tough artist to place.
Earlier in the interview she also touched upon her dress-sense, and how she has been a target for body-shaming.
She told the publication: “Sometimes I dress like a boy. Sometimes I dress like a swaggy girl.
“And sometimes I feel trapped by this persona that I have created, because sometimes I think people view me not as a woman.”
Going on to reference a video she produced for her tour, she said: “That tour video was about all that.
“It is me saying: Look, there is a body underneath these clothes and you don’t get to see it. Isn’t that a shame?
“But my body is mine and yours is yours. Our own bodies are kind of the only real things which are truly ours. I get to see it and get to show it when I want to.”
